The work of one of our HSC students, Datu Behtke, was recently nominated to be screened at the OnStage in February next year. Datu has been a great exponent of video creativity since his early days at the College. In fact some of his work appears in earlier posts on this blog.
Datu’s film is dedicated to his cousin in Germany who died in a car crash when he was only 19. Datu chose to make the protagonist a young man who had ‘lost his way’…which is what had already happened his cousin at that young age with alcohol. His cousin was driving when he shouldn’t have been, and crashed. Datu wanted a way to express his wish that Gerrit could have redeemed himself…and the topical Australian issue of violence against women, often fuelled by alcohol, became a motif.
I hope you enjoy his work.
